The flagship · Jayanagar
Eighteen thousand square feet of Indian luxury on Ashoka Pillar Road. Named the best retail store in Asia-Pacific by the UNESCO Prix Versailles, 2020.
The building
A white Art Deco facade on a quiet Jayanagar road. Brass-framed windows that take their cue from Vidhana Soudha. Stone chosen after a search of quarries across the country.
Inside, a double-height courtyard under a chandelier forty feet long, Italian marble underfoot, and furniture rescued from the old houses of the south: Burmese panel shelves, Chettinad columns, teak wardrobes. Chola bronzes and Tanjore paintings mark the founder’s roots. A terrace garden sits on top; the building recycles its own wastewater.
The architects were Somaya & Kalappa Consultants with the conservation practice Abha Narain Lambah Associates, working to K. H. Radharaman’s brief: opulent, never extravagant.
